Green Belt

Trails Skied: 10, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

The entire trail is skiable, but marginal in many places. The best portions are the south and eastern parts of the loop where in places it would get a 3-flake rating, but the northern part has a lot of sheer ice covered with thin snow, and the western part along the bike path is on a thin soft ice base with gravel breaking through. The skier-made tracks are not very good anywhere due to the new layer of snow being so thin. I was still glad to have gone, skiing was better than not skiing, but if we get the rain that is forecast for overnight and tomorrow, this trail (and likely most other western greenbelt trails, as #10 is often in the best condition) will not be skiable until we get many centimetres of new snow.

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
