Green Belt

Trails Skied: 10, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

Trail was very good, despite it being a Sunday afternoon. The areas of late flooding near the river are frozen now with a thin layer of snow covering. There is one spot on the southern portion of the trail, west of the parking lot, where some open water is flowing with no good bridge, but it wasn't hard to hop across in skis, and you could also just take your skis off an safely cross it. The section of the trail with that hazard is officially closed, but from the trail most people had just gone through. The trail is trampled by foot traffic between the end of Grandview Rd. and the point, as some teens seem to have had a river party there last night (they left the evidence behind!), but it was contained in that area. Overall conditions were very good apart from those couple of areas to watch out for.

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
