Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy , Gatineau Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, Glide Wax: KUU pink, Grip Wax:

Skate ski from P8 to the Icefall above Kingsmere. It looks like Demsis drove a truck up the middle of the parkway while the snow was still wet yesterday, compressing it and creating a somewhat bumpy layer of ice that wasn't very pleasant to ski over. At Mica the truck had turned up the hill, so the section towards Pink Lake was not damaged. Outside the truck tracks there was just enough powder to skate on with care. The alternative, which was slow but very pleasant, was to skate on the far edge of the grass margin outside the skied-in classic tracks. There hasn't been much skier traffic on this section yet so the powder is still quite fresh. When I returned to P8 I noticed the groomer had set the skate lane (NOT classic tracks) heading towards P9. The groomed skate lane looked very good. I'm assuming the groomer will continue around the Parkway loop, which should repair the truck damage and make for pretty good skate conditions later today or very early tomorrow. I don't think there is yet deep enough snow for machine=groomed classic tracks.
