Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Champlain Pkwy, MacKenzie-King Rd , #7, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: K19

When starting out from P6, I had misgivings about being being outdoors at all. Such a damp, raw wind! However it was a memorable ski in many ways, and all in all a lot of fun. It made me happy to be alive! Parkway tracks were obliterated by the fresh snow and wind almost as quickly as you could ski them in. There were snowdrifts and moguls and occasionally a patch of visible tracks. The connector trail from P6 had some sort of excavated snow piled in the area of the classic tracks as they crossed the stone bridge. We had to double pole down the Black Lake Hill as there was a headwind and snowed-in tracks, and at one point I was nearly blown upstream when trying to navigate downstream. However trail 7 was much more enjoyable than the parkway and in hindsight we would have had quite a different outing if we had simply stuck to smaller, woodsier trails. Did I mention the leaves? It was still fun, however, to be out in the elements, especially knowing that a freezing rain event is coming within hours. Goodbye lovely powder snow!
