Green Belt

Trails Skied: 51, 52, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: swix red

My first ski at Mer Bleu since the ice storm mess from several weeks ago. The NCC has pretty much cleaned up the debris with the exception of a large fallen tree on #52 through the forest section closest to the 417. Yesterday's snow storm didn't live up to expectations only dumping 2 to 3 cms which is still not enough to make for enjoyable XC conditions in the Green Belt. The skier made tracks are thin, meandering on a hard icey base and non-existent in many sections. The walkers and snowshoers have been out in force today.. Looks like I'll continue to ski in Gatineau Park until we get more snow..

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
