Mooney's Bay Ski Area

Trails Skied: Stadium, Skate Loop, Glide Wax: CH7, Grip Wax:

I think I've figured out the grooming schedule at this little gem of an urban ski park. Grooming seems to take place every afternoon, no doubt to prepare for the busy evening schedule of ski lessons. Today I arrived shortly after the grooming was completed, and spent a very pleasant hour cruising the skate trails in the afternoon sun. The grooming was superb, with deep, firm classic tracks (the kind we so seldom see in Gatineau Park). All the icy patches are now covered with snow, and my pole tips only broke through to the ice a couple of times. The snow is still best on the upper fields and in the orchard next to Hog's Back Road. That area also gives the best protection from the west wind, which tends to be strong along the beach. The skiers' side of Mt. Mooney has nice packed powder, great for climbing or descending. Enjoy it while the snow lasts- the season at Mooney's is all too short.
