Mooney's Bay Ski Area

Trails Skied: Stadium, Skate Loop, Glide Wax: CH7, Grip Wax:

I had a nice one hour escape on the skate trails here, enjoying the new snow (maybe 5cm, less than in the Gatineau) and very fresh grooming. Skating was a bit slow on the fresh cold powder- I should have used a harder glide wax. Conditions were very good although in a few places one could detect (and sometimes see) ice under the snow. This was particularly true under the trees at the NW end. It looks like pools of water had formed during the weekend thaw, and frozen over without snow bonding to the ice. The classic tracks were also a bit shallow, no doubt due to the limited amount of new snow over the ice. The snow in the stadium loops was superb, great for practising technique. Conditions should be great tonight for anyone interested in an in-town ski under the lights. If you need a workout, try repeated climbs of Mt. Mooney!
