Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #50, Glide Wax: SPF30, Grip Wax: waxless

Skied out of P16 today. Good conditions in general. The first climb is a little dicey but skiable(excpet the bridge was dry). That may have changed in the time it took me to drive home as things were melting fast. Regardless, if you take the time to hike the first hill to the tree line there is good skiing to be had. The snow was pretty dirty but continuous for my whole ski with just one "water trench" across the trail which I could ski over so skis stayed on for the whole day.

The groomers had come from P19 as far as the short steep hill before I got to Herridge where they had turned around. Looks like they had trouble getting back up the hill with lots of backslips, wiggles and trenches evident on the steep part of the climb. Groomed or not conditions were good with a solid classic track and reasonably firm skate lane (considering it was 20C!). I had intended to go to Lac Phillippe but the bench at the junction of 52 called me like a siren song so I stopped there and enjoyed the sun for a long spell before heading back. I expect things will open up fast with these hot days but for now there was still around 20cm or so of base left along the Pine road.
