As a defence against a shortening season I decided to get double value from my ski days. Today I had a skate day and a classic day.

My skate day was two iterations of the north loop from P8 starting around 9AM. There was recent tracksetting. Initially conditions were fast and hard granular corduroy ; at the end of my second iteration the surface was beginning to soften which increased control without robbing speed. Quite enjoyable! When I passed P8 at about 3PM the north loop still looked good with complete coverage.

My classic day involved using my waxless Fischer Crowns on the following route:
P12 => #40 => #24 => #1 => Wolf Ridge bench => #1 => #2 => P12
There was no new tracksetting anywhere on this route; however, it didn’t matter - conditions were firm and good. The skating lane was flat and looked like it was reasonably fast; the classic tracks stayed firm all day. There’s still an awful-lot of snow on the ridge - there’s the occasional small bare spot but I never had to take my skis off and portage. #2 has a lot of snow depth and is definitely a delight to come down. This was the first time that I really found enjoyment from using waxless skis - they almost performed like my wax skis. Tomorrow I expect to go up there again and maybe I’ll head out to the tower.
