Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #40, #1 (blue), Glide Wax: Vauhti Purple, Grip Wax: Vauhti Silver Plus Klister

P12 up #40 to almost McKinstry, and return. There are small dirt patches at the top and bottom of #40, but there's still lots of base beyond (>30cm) and good skis are still safe. The trails had been groomed last night and it very firm reshaped corn with well formed classic tracks. You will need good klister! I started out doing classic. In my scramble to leave the house I forgot to bring my klister bucket and my water bottle belt for that matter - both requirements for a season ending Fire Tower ski. Luckily I had skate skis in the car, so after climbing all the way up #40 on slippery thin grip I doubled back and changed to skate. Normally I would feel guilty skating over the classic tracks, but with temperatures hovering around -2C I wasn't leaving a dent as the trail was bullet proof.

#1 was also looking great, and skating was effortless and fast. Downhills were tricky. The skis tended to track the frozen corduroy and skidoo ruts, so you needed to be on your toes. Get out and enjoy before it goes! 4-5 more days?
