I opted to head out to P19 today and it was nice to finally cross paths with Ron shortly after I started my ski. Not much to add to his report except I was skating today so maybe a slightly different perspective. I did the tour of the Lakes visiting Taylor, Lusk and Phillippe and found generally very good conditions. I thought it would be icy after Saturdays warm spell but last nights light flurries in town must have been heavier up here. Lots of fresh snow on top of a thin crust off trail so no crust cruising just yet. Instead the groomers had made good work of the tracks and I found myself wishing for the classic boards (but was pretty happy with the skaters).

50 and 55 were in very good shape. Trail 54 up to Lusk was fully groomed to the short detour and then skidoo groomed above(as expected). It made it a little "rough and ready" but still very nice. The detour and the steep pitch just after are a little narrow for skating but beyond that it was quite good. A fair amount of debris on the tracks, particularly in the wooded sections of the trail after yesterday's winds but presumably anything big was removed by the grooming crew so no detours necassary. Nice to sit on the deck at Lusk cabin and enjoy the sun - which is clearly gaining strength(bad news for skiers;) - for a bit before turning back downhill for home.

Gatineau Park is ski paradise! The network of ski trails offer machine groomed skate skiing and classic skiing as well as little groomed backcountry trails. Multiple access points allow skiers to access a variety of terrain and scenery. The NCC offers season or daily pay rates.

For suggestions on where to ski, excellent trail descriptions, photos and maps checkout Michael McGoldrick`s website about recreational xc-skiing in Canada`s National Capital Region (with an emphasis on the Gatineau Park).

The NCC also maintains a grooming report on-line. If you encounter people walking on groomed trails, you are best advised to contact the NCC. They are responsible for the enforcement on this so report those trail wreckers whenever you see them by calling 819-827-2020 (Visitor Centre), or email
