Another picture perfect spring day (which seems to have arrived all too soon). Drove past P8 and P9 which were full to overflowing with family groups out enjoying the weather on this (sort of) holiday Monday. I opted to head on to P12 and found only a dozen cars in the lot and the trails at this end of the park were pretty quiet. While Paul went right at the top of 40(yesterday) and out to the firetower, I chose today to turn left and ski in and out of some of the small trails between 40 and Burma. All the main groomed trails had been reset after yesterdays races and were in excellent condition. I even passed the groomer as he headed down 2 to the P12 lot. That was strange as the trails (both 2 and 40) were in pretty good shape and not really in need of another pass but perhaps better safe than sorry on this busy ski day.

I skied with a green klister binder and carrot wax for cover and had good grip. That said, even with a solid binder I still had to stop a couple of times to add some wax as the trail base of (a large number of times) retilled ice is very abrasive on the wax. That said there was lots of surface to the snow and it was easy to control the descents. I didn't see any icy patches.

I opted to ski the little ungroomed BC trails today as I have been waiting for weeks in vain for a decent powder day and it never seems to be coming. Today I found the side trails to be in good shape in spite of their somewhat crusty texture as they have been well skied in. Far from showing their best face I still enjoyed the ski and found they only required a marginal amount of talent to negotiate some of the descents. Not sure I'm up for the steeper and deeper side trails like Merry Go Round or the Highland Fling... but the greens and blues seem to be in good shape and worth the effort. After passing the groomer at the top of McKloskey I made about 100 stems down the descent to the carpark and can report that it was a very effective technique at completely removing my klister base... so one less job to do when I got home.
