P10 - Burma-Ridge-Lookout-Fortune

As Ron has previously mentioned, there is no indication of snowfall on the park website this year. Just so you know, there have been frequent, small snowfalls many nights in the last while, 2 cm here, 5 there, 1 here, etc.,and it is accumulating nicely. I know this from brushing off my car each day and from the frequent shovelling needed on our walks. The park did not get warm last night as did Ottawa and you would have an impossible job of making a snowman with the beautiful powder that fell last night.

Why all this background information? Well, there were no classic tracks set on Fortune, Champlain, Ridge or Burma. The skating looked fantastic, and I would have given 5 stars if I had been skating. It made me drool! The best classic skiing was also out in the skate lane, for both efficiency and waxing.

Burma was compacted, and was very beautiful. It's still very soft and the compacting was interesting, undulating and uneven in many spots, moguls even, but nothing tricky whatsoever. I saw no rocks or roots. Occasionally a pole would disappear into the snow which was in places between 25 and 35 cm deep. There were also a few spots that felt a bit thin or icy beneath, the same spots that lose the snow early in the spring.

All in all it was a fantastic morning of skiing - but not because of the classic grooming.
